SYLVIA HILLMAN, STOP AND TALK DIRECTOR RAISES £600 FOR STOP AND TALK FIFE

Sylvia Hillman, Director of Stop and Talk Fife recently raised over £600 for Stop and Talk Fife by cycling 500 kilometers across Southern India as part of a 10-day cycle. The funds are to be used to fund new premises in Anstruther which will be the office and additional counselling rooms for the charity. Sylvia and her friend Lynn Melville cycled 80 km per day in India after completing a gruelling training schedule in Fife prior to their trip.

A TASTE OF INDIA – FIFERS ON THEIR BIKES FOR CHARITY

A Partner of local law firm Murray Donald is gearing up for an Indian adventure to raise funds for a local counselling charity. Lynn Melville (46) is embarking on the Exodus cycle through Kerala and Tropical India, leaving the UK on 12 April 2014. Southern India is a magical place with beautiful landscapes, fascinating towns and villages and long white beaches, an excellent place to explore by bike.  In the cool heights of the Western Ghats, the sanctuaries at Bandipur and Mudumalai hide wild elephants, tigers and leopards in jungle and bamboo forests.

Cycling around 80km (50 miles) per day, the ten-day cycle will see participants cycle round old forts and up to religious rock shrines as well as through colourful villages where rural life has remained little-changed for centuries.  Further south, in Kerala, Hinduism has produced some of India’s most elaborately decorated temples.

Lynn will be joined, in the self-funded trip, by her friend Sylvia Hillman (47), who has recently launched Stop and Talk, a new Fife-based counselling charity. All donations received will be ploughed directly into Stop and Talk who are now actively seeking permanent premises.

The charity, manned entirely by volunteers including Sylvia, Career Coach and Counsellor, provides counselling advice and guidance to adults experiencing mental health problems as well as advancing the education of mental health problems by raising awareness.

Murray Donald have already provided much-needed support to Sylvia and her team and any donations made to the expedition funds will boost the charity’s funds further.

Lynn explained, “As well as providing legal advice on establishing the charity, we have been delighted to assist and support Sylvia in the early stages of this valuable new initiative. Although the cycle will be one of my toughest challenges to date, I’m delighted to be raising funds for such an important and new charity which will make such a huge difference to many people living and working among us here in Fife.”

Sylvia added, “We are delighted with Murray Donald’s contribution to Stop and Talk and to Lynn’s personal commitment to our cause.  We are also very grateful for the free space which has been offered so far by other charities, namely Fife Employment Access Trust in Glenrothes, Families First and the Community Hospital in St Andrews.  We would be delighted to hear from any other businesses who can offer a permanent space for Stop and Talk to continue to grow steadily.”

The cycle is just the latest in a string of grueling challenges for Lynn, who walked the Inca Trail in South America with Sylvia last year, incorporating one of the great wonders of the world. Lynn also completed a walk in the Sahara desert in 2000 and, in addition to the Indian expedition, is also preparing for the London Moonwalk, the Double Moonwalk in Edinburgh, the Paras 10 (a 10 mile endurance running race) and the Caledonian Challenge.
